The
Entertainment Industry worldwide is opening its borders
and expanding beyond their long-established markets
and media. Puerto Rico is experiencing such "globalization"
of the industry in numerous ways.
The execution of joint ventures, mergers, production
contracts, operating agreements, and acquisitions are
now common transactions in local radio and T.V. stations,
and film companies. International markets continue to
open for local musicians, actors and sports figures,
and the talent demonstrated is more than recognized.
U.S. and international film and T.V. companies are choosing
Puerto Rico locations for a wide range of productions.
The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico has recognized these
developments and is providing business incentives and
financing to numerous production companies. Local legislation
has been enacted to promote and support the entertainment
industry, such as the Film
Industry Development Act, which provides incentives
in the form of tax credits. Our Practice Group has actively
participated in the preparation of legislation for the
entertainment industry, and is an active member of the
Film Industry Committee of the P.R. Chamber of Commerce.
